Apalis alticola

Identification

12-13cm

• Grey-brown upperparts
• Darker crown and cheeks
• White underparts
• Pale orange eye
• Pink legs and feet
• Long tail
• Long slender bill
  

Sexes alike
Juvenile: olive upperparts, yellowy underparts

Distribution

Central and east Africa:
Western Africa: DRC and Angola.
Eastern Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi.

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 2 subspecies:

• A. a. alticola:

• South-western Kenya to Tanzania, northern Malawi, southern Zaire and northern Zambia

• A. a. dowsetti:

• Southern Zaire (Marungu Plateau)

Habitat

High altitude forests.
