Campylorhynchus fasciatus

Identification

Upperside striped with pale gray vs dark gray (often shows brownish tinge in photos). Underside similar except that the dark gray in some areas consist of rows of spots rather than true bars.

Band-backed Wren

Distribution

South America: found in Ecuador and Peru. In the north only on the west side of the Andes, further south has also been reported on the east side.

There are 2 subspecies^[1]:

• C. f. pallescens:

• Arid south-western Ecuador to north-western Peru (Tumbes, Piura and Lambayeque)

• C. f. fasciatus:

• Arid western Peru (southern Piura to Huánuco and northern Lima)

Habitat

Can be found at both low and high level sub-tropical and tropical areas of dry and moist forests, also in coastal shrub.

Behaviour

This large wren is noisy and very energetic.
