Identification

17–18 cm (6¾-7 in)

Distribution

Asia: found in Afghanistan, China, Nepal
South Asia: Pakistan, India and Bhutan

Taxonomy

Formerly considered conspecific with Chinese White-browed Rosefinch.

Subspecies

Two subspecies accepted[1]:

Habitat

Forest edge undergrowth and clearings and boulder covered slopes.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of a wide variety of seeds, buds and shoots of alpine plants. They also eat some berries.

Breeding

There is not a lot known about their behaviour during the breeding season. They construct a large shallow cup nest from grass.
