Genus: Bubo
Description
This genus contains large owls of which many can raise feather tufts commonly called "horns". The members often carry the common name of Eagle-Owl, but when Ketupa is included some have names like Fish-Owl.
Taxonomy
Bubo is a genus in the family Strigidae.
Snowy Owl was formerly placed in its own genus Nyctea.
Bubo vs. Ketupa
Some authorities (Howard & Moore, 2003; IOC 1.6, 2008) place Blakiston's Fish-Owl (blakistoni) in the genus Bubo. Others like Clements 6th edition (2007) and Sibley & Monroe (1996) place this species in Ketupa.
