Genus: Peltops
Description
Two similar species from New Guinea.
Both have a black-and-red plumage with some white on the back and on the side of the head. They behave like flycatchers but have stronger bills.
Taxonomy
Peltops is a genus in the family Artamidae.
This genus has previously been included with the monarch-flycatchers in the family Monarchidae. DNA and protein-allozyme studies have shown that they are an early offshoot of the Cracticidae which are currently included within Artamidae.
