Family: Philepittidae
Description
Four species of Asity; restricted to Madagascar.
They have twelve tail feathers (like the Broadbills), a very short tail, a very long outer primary and the males have prominent wattles around the eyes.
They feed on nectar and fruits.
Taxonomy
Philepittidae is a family in the Order Passeriformes.
Their relation to other bird families were long unclear, the two Sunbird-Asities were longtime placed within the Sunbirds, the two asities also within the Starlings or even the Birds-of-paradise.
