Identification

17-18½ cm (6¾-7¼ in)

  • Gray above
  • Long white supercilium.
  • White throat
  • Chestnut breast band.
  • White belly
  • Gray Flanks
  • Chestnut undertail coverts.

Sexes alike. Juvenile is similar to adult with brownish wash and buff tinge to throat.

Distribution

South America: found in the Andes of south-eastern Peru (Apurímac, Cuzco and Puno).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Highland scrub.

Behaviour

Diet

Unknown. Probably seeds and arthropods.

Breeding

Unknown.

Vocalisation

Song is a variable rich chirping warble with a squeaky component. Calls are thin and weak.
