- White underparts with brown mottling
- Rufous crown, nape and moustache

- Long grey legs and feet
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.

Subspecies
There are 7 subspecies[1]:
- G. r. ruficapilla:
- G. r. perijana:
- Sierra de Perijá (Colombia/Venezuela border)
- G. r. avilae:
- Coastal cordillera of northern Venezuela and Andes of Lara
- G. r. nigrolineata:
- Andes of western Venezuela (Táchira, Mérida and Trujillo)
- G. r. connectens:
- Subtropical Andes of south-western Ecuador
- G. r. albiloris:
- Southern Ecuador (Loja) and north-western Peru (south to Lambayeque)
- G. r. interior:
- Central Cordillera of northern Peru (Amazonas and San Martín)
Habitat
Montane hardwood cloud florest, forest borders and clearings. Second growth and bamboo stands. Mid-elevation at around 2100m with ornamental plantings.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of spiders, caterpillars and other ground insects.
Action
They hop on the ground.
