Male

  • Glistening yellowish-green head, throat and chest
  • Blue nape, back and upper tail
  • Yellow underparts

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela Guyana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 7 subspecies[1]:

  • C. c. psittacina:
  • Santa Marta Mountains (north-eastern Colombia)
  • C. c. intensa:
  • Western slope of Western Andes of Colombia (Caldas and Valle)
  • C. c. longipennis:
  • C. c. frontalis:
  • Mountains of northern Venezuela (Falc¢n and Lara to Miranda)
  • C. c. minuscula:
  • Coastal mountains of north-eastern Venezuela
  • C. c. roraimae:
  • Southern Venezuela to Guyana and extreme north-western Brazil
  • C. c. cyanea:
  • Paraguay to south-eastern Brazil (southern Bahia) and north-eastern Argentina (Misiones)

Habitat

Atlantic forest and forest edges and gardens.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists almost entirely of fruit and berries, with the addition of a few insects.
