12 cm (4¾ in); short tail and short bill
Male

South America: found in the Andes of Colombia, western Venezuela, Ecuador and eastern Peru (Huánuco).

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Andean humid and wet forest, particularly with epiphytes.

Observed high in the canopy.

Their diet consists mostly of berries, especially mistletoe and those from ericaceous plants. They are also known to eat other fruits, such as figs.

The domed nest is formed from tendrils and fibres; both adults help to make the nest.
