12–12·5 cm (4¾-5 in)

  • Grey upperparts
  • White supercilium
  • Blackish wings
  • L-shaped wing-patch
  • Pale grey underparts
  • Buffy belly

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies[1]:

  • C. c. fraseri:
  • C. c. littorale:
  • West slope of Western Andes of Peru to northern Chile
  • C. c. cinereum:
  • Andes of south-eastern Peru and western Bolivia

Habitat

Intermontane valleys between 2500-4200m, also mixed agricultural areas and gardens.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists almost entirely of small insects.
