Identification
A striking red-and-black boubou with a white wing bar.
Unmistakable within its range.
Distribution
Southern Africa: found in Botswana, Namibia, southern Angola, southern Zambia, south-western Zimbabwe and northern South Africa.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Acacia thickets and scrub in arid and semi-arid savanna.
Behaviour
Usually in pairs.
Diet
Forages mainly on tree trunks and on the ground for invertebrates; also eats small fruit.
Breeding
Monogamous and territorial. The nest is a cup built mainly with strips of Acacia bark. Two to three eggs are laid August to April.
