Forests and woodlands of Cuba and Isle of Pines.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Forests and mangroves.
Behaviour
Breeding
They nest in a tunnel in a sandbank, or a tree cavity. The tunnel is lined with grass, lichen and feathers. The clutch consists of 3-4 white eggs.
Diet
The diet includes insects and their larvae, caterpillars and spiders.
Vocalisation
Call: short tot-tot-tot-tot or pprreeee-pprreeee. It sounds like a 'gentle breaking of wind'.
