Western Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda

Taxonomy

Formerly placed in genus Parus.

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies ^[1].

• M. f. funereus:

• Guinea to Cameroon, Zaire, Uganda and Kenya

• M. f. gabela:

• West-central Angola (Gabela escarpment)
