Elaenia strepera

Identification

15·5 cm (6 in)

  • Greyish overall plumage
  • Round head with slight crest
  • Longish tail

Male

  • Slate grey head
  • Pale cheeks

Distribution

South America: found in the Andes of southern Bolivia and north-western Argentina; winters north to Venezuela.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Dry forests, forest borders. Often seen along streams and at heights around 500-2000 m.

Behaviour

They often remain hidden in thick foliage.

Diet

Their diet consists of insects and berries
