Identification

15 cm
A polymorphic species with Black-headed (most common), Red-headed (second most common) and golden (rare) found throughout range.

Distribution

Northern Australia: found in Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1], which is the only member of its genus.

Habitat

Found in variable habitat, but grassy cover with taller trees and bushes seems to be common.

Their diet consists mostly of seeds.

Movements

Most are nomadic.
