9–10 cm (3½-4 in)

• Yellow forecrown
• Bluish-black upper parts
• Bright yellow underparts
• Yellow forehead
• Greenish-yellow throat

Distribtuion

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 5 subspecies^[1]:

• E. c. cynophora:

• Tropical north-eastern Colombia to southern Venezuela and extreme northern Brazil

• E. c. chlorotica:

• Tropical Guianas to north-eastern Brazil

• E. c. serrirostris:

• South East Bolivia to eastern Paraguay, Uruguay, south-eastern Brazil, northern Argentina

• E. c. taczanowskii

• East Peru and northern Bolivia

• E. c. amazonica:

• Amazonian Brazil

Habitat

Mostly along forest borders, river edges and riverine islands.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of mistletoe berries, and other small fruits.

Vocalisation

Call: a high whistled piercing fee-wee.
