Identification
17 cm
- Yellow head, uppertail-coverts, rump and underparts
- Dark ear-coverts
- Streaked mantle, back and scapulars
Female is duller; yellow areas being paler and more buffy (particularly crown and nape)
Distribution
Asia: found in India and Nepal.

There are 2 subspecies[1]:
- P. m. megarhynchus:
- Foothills of southern Himalayas
- P. m. salimalii:
- Foothills of north-eastern India
Habitat
Marshes and grassland.
Behaviour
Breeding
It builds its nest in trees, reedbeds, or large areas of tall grass.
