Identification

12.5 cm. Black head, neck and underparts, dark back, two or three narrow, white wing-bars and sometimes extensive white shoulder. White flanks, black tail with small, white apical spots. Female - rufous-brown upperparts, dark crown, broad black face mask, white eyebrow, dusky wings, buffy-cream underparts. Tail similar to male.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species. It has in the past been placed as a subspecies under Serra Antwren.

Habitat

Beach-scrub and other scrub vegetation on coastal hillsides.

Behaviour

The nest is made from fibres attached to horizontal branch forks. 2 eggs are laid which are incubated by both parents who also both care for the young.
