Identification

27-30cm

  • Green-black
  • Iridescent purple above
  • Grey below
  • Grey face and neck
  • Red stripe below eye
  • Purple iridescence on tail

Distribution

Caribbean: endemic to Jamaica.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Wet limestone and montanes, between 100-2,200 m,

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes invetebrates, fruit and seeds.

Breeding

The nest is built from twigs and is placed on or near the ground. The 2 cream eggs are incubated for 13 days; males incubate during the day, while females incubate during the evening and overnight.
