14–15 cm (5½-6 in)
Male Nominate subspecies

  • Black head, nape and upper breast
  • White cheeks

R. s. percivali male has warm brown forehead to upper nape.

Southwest Arabia and Socotra.

Somali Grosbeak was formerly included in this species.

Rhynchostruthus socotranus has two subspecies:[1]

  • R. s. percivali
  • Mountains of south-western Arabia.
  • R. s. socotranus

Both subspecies are sometimes treated as full species.

Rocky hillsides with scrub.

Their diet consists of buds, fruit, small berries and a variety of seed species.
