Grallaria quitensis

Identification

16-18cm (in addition to individual variation, there is also variation between subspecies in size).
Olive brown above, pale sides of head, white lores and eyering, buff-ochre below, white throat and belly.

Distribution

Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Taxonomy

Three subspecies are recognized:

  • alticola eastern Colombia
  • quitensis central Colombia to northern Peru
  • atuensis northern Peru

Habitat

High altitude scrubland and hedgerows as well as disturbed areas.

Behaviour

Can either hop or run.

When singing will sometimes perch in the open.
