Southeast Asia: found in Indonesia, Moluccas, Misool, Salawati Islands, Papua New Guinea, D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago, Melanesia
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in the genus Coracina.
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- E. s. schisticeps:
- Misool Island and Salawati Island and north-western New Guinea
- E. s. reichenowi:
- Northern New Guinea (Geelvink Bay to Sepik flood-plain)
- E. s. poliopsa:
- Southern New Guinea (Kapare River to Astrolabe Mountains)
- E. s. vittatum:
- D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago (Fergusson and Goodenough)
Habitat
Forests and forest edges, including tall secondary growth; from sea level to 1500 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of fruit with the addition of insects, caterpillars.
