Identification

11–12 cm
Sexes slightly sexually dimorphic; female has same pattern but is duller with purple crown patch duller, diminished, or absent.

Distribution

South America: found from eastern Colombia to northern Bolivia, southern Venezuela and western Amazonian Brazil.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Lowland river-edge forest, observed at heights around 488 m elevation. Humid Forest Life Zone.

Behaviour

Diet

They drink nectar from flowering shrubs and hawk flying insects.
