Distribution

Central Africa: found in Sierra Leone, Gabon, DR Congo, Angola, Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania

Taxonomy

Two subspecies recognized:

• P. l. lathami:

• Sierra Leone to Gabon, north-western DR Congo and Angola

• P. l. schubotzi:

• Western DR Congo to extreme south-western Sudan, western Uganda and north-western Tanzania

Formerly placed in genus Francolinus.
