Identification

13 cm (5 in); tail has narrow base broader at the end

  • Overall slaty-grey plumage
  • White vent area

Female has a chestnut head and neck.

Distribution

Mountains of central China (southern Shaanxi, south-eastern Gansu and north-eastern Sichuan).

This is a monotypic species[1].

Placed in Emberiza by some authorities.

Habitat

Montane valley forests, generally between 1500 m and 2100 m.

Behaviour

Diet

There is little information available; but certainly in the breeding season they are known to eat small invertebrates such as beetles.
