Malacoptila fulvogularis

Identification

19–22 cm (7½-8¾ in)

  • Blackish head with white streaks
  • White spot in front of eye and another at base of forehead
  • Whitish chin and whiskers
  • Dark brown upperparts

Distribution

South America: found on the eastern slope of the Andes in central Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and north-western Bolivia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Subspecies substriata and huilae are not generally recognised[2].

Habitat

They inhabit the understorey of humid montane forests, at heights around 1400 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Their main diet consists of large invertebrates.

Breeding
