Overview
Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia which consists of two main parts. Peninsular Malaysia is a part of the Asian mainland. The two states of Sabah and Sarawak are on Borneo, a big island east of Peninsular Malaysia.
Most parts of the country were once covered in rainforest. Nowadays the forest has been largely replaced by oil palm plantations, rubber tree plantations and urban development. Large national parks (mainly on Borneo) still hold pristine forest, but outside the parks deforestation goes on with an alarming speed.
