Identification
Endangered, possibly fewer than 400 birds in existence.
25 cm. Brown upperparts, darker wings with two narrow, white wing-bars and darker tail. Brown head with dusky lores and short, pale supercilium. White underparts, streaked brown on flanks. Black bill and legs.
Distribution
Socorro Island in the Revillagigedo Islands.
Taxonomy
This species is monotypic.[1]
Was until recently placed in it's own monotypic genus Mimodes.
Habitat
Low forest.
Behaviour
3 eggs are laid which take up to 15 days to hatch.
The diet includes small invertebrates, the remains of land crabs, insects and fruit.
