- Dark brown upperparts
- Whitish underparts with brownish blotches
- Brown and rufous barring on thighs
Distribution
East and central Africa
Western Africa: occurs only in Democratic Republic of Congo.
Eastern Africa: Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi
Taxonomy
Subspecies
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly regarded conspecific with Forest Buzzard.
Habitat
Montane forests and grasslands.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet is not well recorded but they are reported to eat bats and other small mammals, birds, reptiles and insects.
