Muscicapa ferruginea

Identification

Size-13cm (5.25in)
Differs from other Muscicapa flycatchers by rufous rump, uppertail coverts and buff rufous flanks. Head slaty grey, mantle brown, throat and upper breast whitish. Narrow orbital skin and narrow wing bars pale buff rufous. Shows indistinct rufous marking on lores.

Distribution

Breeding in the Himalayas and southern China, wintering south through Nort-East India and SE Asia to the Greater Sundas.

Uncommon passage migrant to Singapore.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species^[1].

Habitat

Forest and forest edges and scrub. Mid to high altitude forest.

Behaviour

Usualy solitary.

Frequents the middle and lower storeys especially near streams in shady gullies.
