Identification

Similar Species

Stronger yellow rump than the very similar Black-tailed Flycatcher but the yellow is found in a narrower band across the back. Also shows a tawny color to the breast missing in the Black-tailed.

Distribution

Central and South America:
Central America: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia, Ecuador

Taxonomy

Myiobius sulphureipygius has two subspecies:

• M. s. sulphureipygius

• Tropical South-eastern Mexico to Honduras

• M. s. aureatus

• Southern Honduras to western Colombia and western Ecuador

Split by Clements (2010) and Gill and Donsker (2010) from Whiskered Flycatcher M. barbatus.

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.
