Similar Species

Choco Elaenia differ in having white crown patch in both sexes, relatively smaller bill, and trill song with fewer notes both per song and per second. Amazonian Elaenia has bluer upperparts in male, greener in female, bill is relatively longer, and the difference in trilled song is mainly towards the end.

Distribution

South America: found from southeastern Peru, northern Bolivia, and adjacent Brazil as well as from eastern and southern Bolivia south to northwestern Argentina and east to Paraguay, northeastern Argentina, and south central and eastern Brazil

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

The population from southeastern Peru, northern Bolivia, and adjacent Brazil may be an undescribed subspecies?

This species was formerly named Gray Elaenia and then included Choco Elaenia and Amazonian Elaenia.

Habitat

Canopy of a variety of forest and woodland, frequently in dry forest types.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of insects and small fruits.

Vocalisation

One frequently heard song is a trill which is a fast paced series of notes of relatively high pitch, but trailing off towards the end. This series is faster and contains more notes than in Choco Elaenia and Amazonian Elaenia.
