Taxonomy

Placed in genus Oenanthe by Gill and Donsker.

Subspecies

There are 5 subspecies^[1]:

• M. a. frontalis:

• Extreme southern Mauritania to Senegal, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon

• M. a. limbata:

• East Cameroon to Central African Republic (Ubangi-Shari region)

• M. a. clericalis:

• South Sudan, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and northern Uganda

• M. a. albifrons:

• Eritrea and northern Ethiopia

• M. a. pachyrhyncha:

• South West Ethiopia

Habitat

Moist savanna and dry shrubland.
