Identification
- Black crown and mantle
- Bright orange throat
- Paler chest and underparts
- Orange-yellow eyebrow
- Black wings with white wing patch
- Orange-yellow rump
- Black tail
Non-breeding males have varying levels of yellow.
Females - buff-brown, rusty wings, two-toned eyering.
Distribution
Asia: breeding in Japan and on Sakhalin, wintering south to Korea, mainland China, and Taiwan, Philippines and Borneo.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Green-backed Flycatcher and Ryukyu Flycatcher were formerly included in this species.
Habitat
Deciduous woodlands. Primary forest, Secondary forest and scrub, mangroves and city parks.
Behaviour
Prefers the lower storey and perches that are hidden by thick foliages and twigs.
Diet
Diet includes insects and small caterpillars.
Vocalisation
It makes a soft murmuring whistle
