Identification

Distribution

Endemic to Tristan da Cunha in the Atlantic Ocean. Found on Tristan da Cunha, Inaccessible Island and Nightingale Island.

Taxonomy

Three subspecies are recognised, N. e. eremita (Tristan da Cunha), N. e. gordoni (Inaccessible Island), and N. e. procax (Nightingale Island).

It has often been treated as the sole species within the genus Nesocichla, but recent genetic evidence places it within Turdus, a treatment now followed by IOC[1].

Habitat

Temperate shrubland, temperate grassland, and rocky shores.
