Identification
24–25 cm (9½-9¾ in)
- Bright yellow with black wings and tail
- Black eyeline extending well behind eye
- Dark grey legs
- Red eye
- Fairly thick pinkish bill
Female and Juvenile are yellowy-green, with paler underparts; wings and tail are darker. Juvenile has a black bill.
Similar species
Very like Eurasian Golden Oriole but male with black eyeline extending well behind eye, larger yellow carpal patch and large yellow tips to tertials and edges to secondaries. Females have sharper crisp streaks below.
Distribution
Western Siberia to Indian subcontinent.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly regarded conspecific with Eurasian Golden Oriole.
Habitat
Open secondary deciduous and evergreen forest, wooded gardens, orchards and groves.
Behaviour
Usually seen singly or in pairs.
Breeding
The nest is built in a fork in a tree; 3-6 eggs are laid.
