Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- A. g. gustavi:
- Northern Eurasia; winters in the Philippines, northern Borneo and Wallacea
- A. g. stejnegeri:
- Commander Island; winters in eastern Asia
- A. g. menzbieri:
A fourth subspecies, commandorensis is generally considered invalid[2]
Habitat
Damp tundra, open forest or marshland, coastal swampy meadows.
Behaviour
Breeding
The 4-5 eggs are laid into a ground nest.
Diet
Diet mainly consists of insects.
