Identification

9cm.

  • Brownish-olive upperparts and crown
  • Whitish lores and narrow eyering
  • Dusky olive-brown wings and tail
  • Narrow whitish wingbars
  • White throat and underparts with faint greyish streaking
  • Whitish to pale grey eyes
  • Grey bill and legs

Sexes similar.

Similar species

Distinguished from similar Pearly-vented Tody-Tyrant by slightly smaller size, colour of upperparts and whiter wingbars (less yellow).

Distribution

Locally and patchily distrbuted around Rio Negro and its tributaries in northwest Brazil. Probably also in adjacent Colombia and Venezuela.
A locally common restricted-range species. Long time only known from a single specimen from 1831 but rediscovered in 1992 and since then found in several localities.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
Formerly considerd conspecific with Pearly-vented Tody-Tyrant. May form a superspecies with Zimmer's Tody-Tyrant.

Habitat

Found in white-sand woodland (locally known as campinarana).

Behaviour

Few information on behaviour.
Forages in subcanopy and low canopy.
No information on diet and breeding.
Probably a resident species.
