80–90 cm (31½-35½ in)
Pink and white plumage

Africa, Pakistan and northwest India. Also recorded in many European countries as vagrants such as Spain and Turkey.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Formerly placed in genus Phoenicopterus.

Habitat

Mainly brackish lakes, lagoons, salt pans

Behaviour

Breeding

A single chalky white egg is laid on mounds they build of mud.

The Lesser Flamingo is at the front of the picture and a Greater Flamingo at the rear
