Male

  • Greyish-blue crown to nape
  • Black face and breast
  • Black upperparts
  • White band from shoulder to tertials

Distribution

Blue-capped redstart is found in Himalayan Ranges from Bhutan in East through Nepal and India to Pakistan in west. It is also found in Northeastern Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and northwestern China.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Previous scientific name Phoenicurus caeruleocephalus.

Habitat

Open dryish juniper-pine forests.

Diet

Their diet consists mostly of insects, though berries and seeds are also eaten on occasion. Nestlings appear to be fed moths and caterpillars.
