Identification

Male

  • Slate-blue crown
  • Black face, back and wings
  • Reddish rump
  • White wing stripe from wing-coverts to secondaries
  • Reddish patch on lower scapulars

Asia: found from Nepal to southern Tibet and west-central China; winters to Myanmar.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Temperate forests. They usually breed near streams below the tree-line.

Behaviour

Their diet consists of insects and berries.
