Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 6 subspecies[1]:
- P. r. occidentalis:
- P. r. riefferii:
- P. r. melanolaema:
- Andes of western Venezuela (north to southern Lara)
- P. r. confusa:
- P. r. chachapoyas:
- Subtropical Central Andes of northern Peru (San Martín)
- P. r. tallmanorum:
- Andes of central Peru (Huánuco)
Subspecies confusa is not recognised by all authorities and has been absorbed into P.r. chachapoyas[5]
Habitat
Cloud forest with ornamental plantings, forest edges. Observed at heights around 1650-2350 m,
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of fruit.
