Genus: Pomatorhinus

Description

This genus contains nine species of Scimitar-Babblers from SE Asia. They have in common:

  • Relatively long, slender and decurved bill
  • A rather long body emphasized by the long tail (which is longer than the wing)
  • Long strong claws (notabely the hind claw)
  • Duetting habit

Taxonomy

Pomatorhinus is a genus in the Family Timaliidae.
Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler was formerly placed in the genus Xiphirhynchus. Clements now places several species in the new genus Megapomatorhinus.
