Identification

Length 17-18 cm
Black head; grey back, belly and lower breast; grey wings with white wing bar on outer primaries. Red legs, bill and eye wattle.

Distribution

Western Africa: found on escarpment near Gabela, Angola.

Taxonomy

Monotypic[1]

Habitat

Forest and thicket.

Status

Classified as Endangered in the 2008 IUCN Red List; due to habitat loss.[2]

Behaviour

Found in small groups.

Vocalization

Harsh churring and clicking calls.
