Identification

26 cm (10¼ in)

  • Bright reddish-brown
  • Prominent crest
  • Yellow iris

Distribution

South America: found in arid north-eastern Brazil (Pernambuco, Piauí, Bahia and Minas Gerais).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Caatinga woodland and scrub, tropical deciduous forest.

Behaviour

Diet

They mostly feed terrestrially in pairs on insects and vegetable matter.

Breeding

They are thought to be monogamous.
