Identification

Distribution

Central America: found in the humid lowlands of south-eastern Nicaragua, Costa Rica and western Panama.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Aratinga.

Habitat

Open country with scattered trees, fields. Humid tropical lowland evergreen forest to 1600m.

Behaviour

These are very social birds, often found in large groups. They gather in large noisy colonies at dusk.

Diet

The diet includes fruit and flowers.

Breeding

It nests in natural cavities. The clutch consists of 2-4 eggs.
