Identification
18 cm.
- Broad white supercilium
- Dark slaty blue-grey upperparts
- Slaty grey tail with broad white tips on outer rectrices
- Dull grey throat and breast
- White rest of underparts
- Dark brown eye
- Black bill and legs
Sexes similar, juveniles not yet described.
Distribution
Endemic to Java, Indonesia.
An uncommon to locally common restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species1.
It's sometimes considered conspecific with Spotted Fantail.
Habitat
Moist montanes at 900 to 2750 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Feeds on small flying insects (including ants).
Forages in middle storey and near or in dense vegetation. Sometimes also in mixed-species flocks.
Breeding
Breeding season from May to June. The nest is a small cup made of fine fibres and twigs and covered with a thick layer of spider web. It's placed within a few metres of the ground. Lays 2 eggs.
Movements
This is a resident species.
