14–14·5 cm (5½-5¾ in)

  • Olive upperparts
  • Greyish underparts
  • Dark feathers on throat give a scaly appearance
  • Broad white tips to the tail
  • Yellowish lower mandible

Distribution

South America: found in Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.

Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • South-eastern Brazil (Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul)

Habitat

Denizen of the mid-level Atlantic forest, where it inhabits the understorey of montane rainforests and humid areas of semi-deciduous forests.

Behaviour

Their main diet consists of nectar and insects. They feed by trap-lining.
