Identification
30 cm.
- Grey upperparts
- Paler grey underparts
- Rufous-chestnut rump, lower flanks and undertail-coverts
- Strongly recurved and attenuated primaries
- Dark red brown eye
- Blackish bill, dark horn below
Females are similar to males but with less modified primaries. Juvenile undescribed.
Distribution
Found on the eastern slopes of the Andes in Bolivia and extreme southeastern Peru.
A little known and seldom seen restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Has been placed in a monotypic genus (Chirocylla) before.
Habitat
Moist montanes.
Occurs at 1800-2750 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Feeds on berries and fruits. Takes probably also insects.
Forages sometimes in mixed-species flocks.
